The Poland Township Board of Trustees held a regular meeting January 20, 2021 at the Poland Township Government Center located at 3339 Dobbins Road Poland, Ohio.

Mr. Ungaro calls the meeting to order. 

Michael Thompson leads the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mr. Canter does roll call. Ungaro, Kempers and Wollet are present.

Mr. Ungaro motions to approve the Regular minutes dated December 9, 2020. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Voting yes - Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

Mr. Ungaro motions to approve the January 16, 2021 Reorganizational meeting. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Voting yes - Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

Mr. Ungaro motions to authorize payment for all outstanding bills for the Township. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

Mr. Kempers is present to recognize guest Attorney Michael Thompson, 214 South Main Street. He discussed a project for a virtual Memorial Day celebration due to the pandemic.

Mr. Ungaro motions to authorize the township to contribute an amount not to exceed $1,250 towards a videographer for the Memorial Day services.   Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

ADMINISTRATION:

Mr. Canter reports the December financial report, will be presented at next meeting.

Mrs. Wollet speaks on behalf of the Poland Historical Society.

Mr. Ungaro motions to approve a donation of $5,000.00 to Poland Historical Society for operations for the year 2021. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

PARK COMMITTEE:

Mr. Filicky is present to give monthly report.

RECYCLING:

Nothing to report.

ZONING DEPARTMENT:

Mr. Robert Monus is present to give monthly report.

Monthly report from December.

  • 1 new structure, valuation- $195,145; fees collected-$1,366
  • 5 additional improvements, valuation-$27,670; fees collected-$226
  • 0 misc. permit issued for a total of -$0.00; 0-appeals, 0-admendments, valuation-$0.00;
  • 5 violations for the month; total valuation for the month- $222,815; total fees collected-$1,592.

Annual Zoning Report for 2020.

  • 13 new structures, valuation- $2,608,915; fees collected-$18,302.
  • 148 additional improvements, valuation-$1,942,609; fees collected-$12,211.
  • 26 misc. permits issued in the amount of $130; 9-appeals in total amount of $2,475; 3-admendments in total amount of $1,525; 333 violations; total valuation for the year- $4,551,524; total fees collected-$34,643.

Mr. Ungaro motions to approve the letter of resignation from Jim Burgham of the Zoning Appeals Board. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Roll call vote yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

Mr. Ungaro motions to appoint John Grahovac to the Zoning Appeals Board to fill Jim Burgham’s position. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Roll call vote yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

Mr. Kempers motions to appoint John Savarise as an alternate to the Zoning Appeals Board for 2021. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Roll call vote yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

Mr. Kempers motions to appoint David Long as an alternate to the Zoning Appeals Board for 2021. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Roll call vote yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

Mr. Ungaro motions to reappoint Frank Prusak to the Zoning Commission for five years. Also approve to reappoint Albert Sciulli to the Zoning Appeals for five years. Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Roll call vote yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

ROAD DEPARTMENT:

Mr. Robert Monus is present to give monthly report.       

POLICE DEPARTMENT:

Chief Goodin is present to give monthly report.

Mr. Ungaro motions to approve purchase of ammunition for training from Kiesler Police Supply in the amount not to exceed $2,200.  Seconded by Mrs. Wollet. Voting yes – Ungaro, Wollet and Kempers. Motion carried.

ELECTED OFFICIAL COMMENTS:

Mrs. Wollet - Everyone stay safe and let’s hope for vaccinations.

Mr. Kempers - Ditto!

Mr. Ungaro - Nothing to be announced.
